Colored Pencil Lesson Collection
Dear friends,
Even if you are new to working in color, the familiar feel of a pencil in your hand will make colored pencil far less intimidating than watercolor or paint. In this lesson collection, you can explore the wide range of textures and effects you can create with this simple tool. The results will amaze you!
The supply list for this course is brief:
2B drawing pencil
kneaded eraser
a basic set of good-quality colored pencils (I recommend Prismacolor Premiere)
a pad of Bristol vellum or other high-quality drawing paper
an X-acto knife
I always love to hear your comments or suggestions, or to answer any questions: just email me at studio@valwebb.com.
Enjoy!
BONUS WARM-UP LESSON: BROAD STROKE PENCIL DRAWING
Trends come and go in art techniques, and a drawing method that was once universally popular can vanish in a generation. This is very true of a fun pencil sketch practice called broad stroke... it emerged in the early 1900s and flourished for 40 years, then disappeared. We’ll do our part to keep it alive this week, by using it to draw cats. (Broad stroke was originally developed for landscape drawing.)
I am still making friends with a new video camera, which is much fancier and more complicated than my old one. For that reason, the exposure on our videos is slightly darker than in the past, but still perfectly clear. I will continue to experiment with settings and should have it exactly right by the next lesson. Thanks for waiting!
Watch both videos and print the four attached pdf pages before you begin to draw:
