LESSON 9: DRAWING - SPOT ART PRACTICE ON BROWN PAPER
Spot art is usually the “supporting actor” that will point out something about the larger, painted gouache image. Small and highly detailed, it is often a fragment or variation of the main subject. It might be a petal or a seed pod, for example.
But spot art can also be a small illustration to accompany information in your written narrative. In this painting of a Lousiana iris, my spot art helps tell the story of the fleur de lis:
